Located 230km from Ho Chi Minh City, Con Dao is an archipelago of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, and is made up of 16 islands and islets. A national park, with islands covered in forest and almond trees, it was originally used by the French to incarcerate revolutionary prisoners. In recent years tourist facilities have been added, along with charming narrow roads so that visitors can get around by car, motorbike, or bicycle and the seemingly deserted beaches allow for excellent swimming and snorkelling opportunities.
