Your local guide and driver will meet you at around 8.30am for this full-day tour to Nam Ngum Lake, approximately 90 kilometres north of Vientiane. Departing Vientiane on road number 10 it is possible to make a stop to observe traditional salt extraction at the village of Ban Keun, and sticky rice wine distillation at Ban Pak Khanhung.
Arrive at Nam Ngum Lake and order lunch at a local restaurant before taking a boat trip on the lake, enjoying the panoramic views. The lake is an incredibly scenic vast artificial lake with many small islands that was formed when the Ngum River was dammed for hydroelectricity. Take a trip around the lake by boat, and it is possible to enjoy a swim in the clear waters before returning to the local restaurant for lunch.
After lunch begin the return journey to Vientiane along highway number 13. Along the way make a stop to visit the archaeological site of Vang Xang and an ethnic minority market, often frequented by H?mong people. Arrive back in Vientiane late afternoon and the remainder of the afternoon and evening is at own arrangements.
